Endometriosis and other chronic conditions
Endometriosis is a chronic condition where tissue similar to the lining of the uterus (endometrium) grows outside the uterus, often on the ovaries, fallopian tubes, or other pelvic organs. This can cause severe pelvic pain, especially during menstruation, and may lead to fertility issues. Treatment options include pain management, hormone therapy, and in some cases, surgery to remove the abnormal tissue.
Other Chronic Conditions treated in urogynecology include:
- Interstitial Cystitis (Painful Bladder Syndrome): Chronic bladder pain and frequent, urgent urination.
- Vulvodynia: Persistent pain or discomfort around the vulva with no identifiable cause.
- Chronic Pelvic Pain: Long-term pain in the pelvic region that may have various underlying causes.
These conditions often require a combination of medical treatments, physical therapy, and sometimes surgery, tailored to manage symptoms and improve the patient’s quality of life.
